文书

在大学申请中，最后一个重要环节是文书 (essays)。文书是一种写作任务，用来向大学展示你的个人故事和价值观。美国大学的文书大致分为两类: 主文书 (Common App personal essay，以前称为 personal statement)，这是 Common App 中的统一文书，几乎所有学校都要求提交；以及小文书 (supplements)，这是各个学校根据自身要求设置的附加问题。其他国家的大学对文书的要求不一，但仍有一些与美国大学重合的内容。本文主要介绍美国大学文书的相关内容。

在 Common App 中，主文书写作提示 (题目) 可以七选一，至少要写 250 词，最多可写 650 词。这些写作提示在过去几年中都没有变化，如下:

1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story. 一些学生拥有对自己极为重要的背景、身份、兴趣或才能，他们认为如果不写出来，申请就不完整。如果这与你相符，请分享你的故事。
2. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience? 我们从遇到的障碍中学到的经验，往往对日后的成功至关重要。请回忆你曾经面对挑战、挫折或失败的经历。它对你产生了什么影响? 你从中学到了什么?
3. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome? 回顾一次你质疑或挑战某种信念或观点的经历。是什么促使你产生这样的想法? 结果如何?
4. Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma—anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution. 描述一个你已经解决或希望解决的问题。它可以是学术挑战、研究问题、道德困境——无论大小，只要对你个人很重要即可。解释它对你的意义，以及你为找到解决方案采取了哪些步骤，或可以采取哪些步骤。
5. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others. 谈谈一个成就、事件或顿悟，它引发了你个人成长，并让你对自己或他人有了新的认识。
6. Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more? 描述一个让你全神贯注、忘记时间的话题、想法或概念。它为什么如此吸引你? 当你想要深入了解时，你会向谁或什么寻求帮助?
7. Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design. 请提交一篇你自选主题的文章。它可以是你已经写过的，也可以是回应其他题目的，或者是你自己设计的题目。

就小文书而言，虽然每个学校的问题不同，但大致可以分为以下几类:

1. 为什么选择我们学校? 这类问题要求你解释为什么你对该校感兴趣，以及该校如何符合你的学术和个人目标。回答时，你需要展示你对学校的了解，并说明你如何能为学校社区做出贡献。
2. 为什么选择这个专业 (学术兴趣)? 这类问题要求你解释为什么你对某个学科或专业感兴趣，以及你未来的学术和职业目标。回答时，你需要展示你对该领域的热情和理解，并说明你如何计划在大学中进一步发展这一兴趣。
3. 课外活动和成就。 这类问题要求你详细描述一个课外活动、项目或成就，以及它对你的影响。回答时，你需要展示你的领导力、团队合作能力和解决问题的能力。
4. 社区。 这类问题要求你描述你属于什么社区，对这一社区产生了什么影响。回答时，你需要展示你的同理心、责任感和对社会的贡献。
5. 挑战和成长。 这类问题要求你描述一个你曾经面对的挑战或困难，以及你从中学到了什么。回答时，你需要展示你的韧性、适应能力和自我反思能力。
